Route description for Tour de Boland 2019 Stage 1, on Sunday 3 March 2019
CPT Stadium to Boschendal
Table Mountain
Start in Cape Town, at the famous World Cup stadium, under the shadow of the more famous Table Mountain. Take pictures, send to friends. Meet the Boland Team – Nico, Carinus and partners. Ride – as one group – all the way to Bloubergstrand, for breakfast by the sea – and some pictures for your loved ones with Table Mountain in the distance. Most of day one will be one group – so the pace will be leisurely, as we discover the sights and sounds, as well as each other.
We cross the busy R27 after Melkbosstrand, and then we go south for a bit, in order to reach the quiet rolling hills leading us to Klipheuwel – for a bit of water and energy – and then onto Simondium, more snacks down the road – our final haul towards Franschhoek is fast – depending on the wind, but do make sure to look around at this amazing winelands-world of which we are very proud.
Flat to up
There are no mountain passes on Stage 1, but we do have a subtle incline all the way from the coast to the finish.
